Revamping its symbol in rainbow colors, the USA will make a statement at the World Cup in Qatar.

In an effort to bring attention to the LGBTQ+ community, the United States squad will make a significant statement during the 2018 World Cup in Qatar by altering their badge to incorporate the rainbow flag. The event, which is set to begin on Sunday when host Qatar play Ecuador, has generated a lot of controversy in the lead-up.

The United States men’s national team has now chose to make a remark by changing the customary red stripes on their emblem to rainbow colors in order to show support for the LGBTQ+ population.

On Monday, the group practiced at the Al Gharrafa SC Stadium in Ar-Rayyan. A large US crest and the phrase One Nation were displayed on the wall in a training session photo.

Given Qatar’s record on human rights and stance on homosexuality, many have criticized FIFA for choosing that nation to host the World Cup. Khalid Salman, one of Qatar’s World Cup ambassadors, came under fire earlier this month for remarks he made against homosexuality. They must abide by our norms here, Salman said in a statement to German network ZDF. It is forbidden to be homosexual. Know what the word haram means.

Several players have advocated for the rights of spectators in recent months, particularly LGBTQ+ individuals, who intend to go to the Middle East for the event. Qatar has also come under a lot of criticism for how they treat foreign workers and for their harsh social restrictions.

The US’s campaign will begin against Wales on Monday, followed by matches against England and Iran. The team of Gregg Berhalter would be expecting they have quite enough to go to the knockout rounds. Prior to the game against Wales, Berhalter discussed the caliber of the Welsh team, saying, I believe that Wales is underappreciated, at least to the American media. My first impression of their team is that it is essentially a Premier League team. You have Daniel James, a top-tier player who scored the other night against Manchester United.

You have a player of Harry Wilson’s caliber. Ben Davies, Kieffer Moore, Neco Williams, Brennan Johnson, and Gareth Bale. It seems like a tremendously strong team to me, a formidable team.
